Goodbye to Sisters & Bend, Central OR

In the early planning for this RV trip, we decided to stay the month of June in central Oregon, near Bend, and do a bit of exploring. We were not disappointed. There was so much to see and do in this area.  Our priority usually involves the outdoors, and, boy oh boy, was this ever the location for enjoying activities in the fresh air and sunshine. We found lots of places to go: hikes, waterfalls, historical sites (recent and geological), and also the occasional microbrew establishment (which seems to be a core element in/around Bend).

On our earlier RV travels, we had moved around a good bit, so staying in one place for a month was a “first” for us.  Due to “no vacancies” during the mid-June Sister’s annual rodeo, we did have to move for a few nights.  However, for most of June, home was the Bend/Sisters Garden RV Resort.

RV'er's reviews on this park were very positive and so was our experience there.  We were able to have the same parking site before and after the rodeo - #83 on the lake with a wonder view, lots of space and super close to the dog walk.

We learned that this park used to be a KOA,  and still has a nice pool, play area, and miniature golf on-site.

However, the key word with the new ownership is “garden”.  Lots of care and attention is given to the gardens all around this good-sized park. Over the month, we saw changes in blooms, progressing from lupine to petunias – all being planted and maintained by several staff.

Wildlife in and around the lake included fish (visible on occasion), and Canada Geese and ducks in and out of the water; also other birds nesting in some of the many trees.

The geese had young, and we observed most of the goslings getting their flight feathers as the month progressed.  The only negative was the amount of droppings by these big birds. However, as was explained to us upon arrival, until the young could fly, the owners were trying to deal with the mess, which was an overwhelming problem.  I was glad to see the geese were somewhat protected, though they were a bit of a nuisance.

On our last day, we had a great visit with our new RV friends, Jim and Gayle - and hope to reconnect with them in December when they will be back in AZ for the wonderful “winter” weather there.

But now it’s time to move on and see more, starting with Crater Lake NP, as we start moving back south.
