It’s been quite a while
since we did an RV trip outside of southern AZ.
Usually we plan a trip for summertime – when we are more than ready to
move to cooler climates. Last year we had to postpone our usual migration due
to a freak accident Gary had while barbequing (resulting in a shattered collar
bone, surgery, etc.).
In 2016, we lost both of our
long-time companion Corgis, Willie and Rosie, to old-age complications. Luna,
our adopted “mostly” Corgi jumped right in and is proving to be an excellent
traveler.
We have been interested in
trying a longer stay at one location, and had heard good reports from friends
who travel to southern, coastal CA.
Reservations were set a few months ago, and we are currently spending
June at a great location, Chula Vista RV Resort, just south of downtown San
Diego. Staying here for a month will give us time to check out the sites around
San Diego AND enjoy the more temperate climate of this coastal area (average
daytime temps in low 70s vs 100+ at home).

Not only is the RV Resort
nice, we are surrounded by a large marina to the south (we are on the San Diego
Bay), and a large public park just outside of the resort walls – a very dog
friendly area.

Even though the weather has
been quite cloudy our first week here, we have been busy doing some short side
trips along the “strand” to Coronado (great doggie park there).
And, we followed our friends
Carol and Jerry to a San Diego Succulent Society summer plant sale at Balboa
Park (still learning how to find places). Succulents are very well adapted to
this coastal climate and the variety and number of specimens was amazing.
Needless to say, we will be traveling back there for excursions to the various
park gardens, and the San Diego Zoo.

Over this past weekend was a
big Hobie-Cat race. We spent some time
watching the crews take the boats into the water and sail to the race’s
starting points further north. (And, of course, many of those racing were
staying here.)

Wow, one week of our month here is already gone
and we have plans for many short excursions.
More of that will come later.
Looks fantastic!!! We have many pictures of those same places!! Just wish we were seeing them with you guys at the same time -- maybe one day. Have fun - can't wait to follow your adventures for the rest of your stay.
