Taos

We traveled from Great Sand Dunes National Park to Angel Fire, New Mexico.  When planning the trip we didn't find many good parks in the Taos area.
But Good Sam put out a notice of a large luxury resort opening in Angel Fire on May 1.   We immediately booked two weeks starting May 26.  The night before arrival we received a call saying that because of snow and bad weather the park was not completely landscaped.  They offered us half price so we decided to try it.  When we arrived we decided to stay only one week.  When finished, this will be a great park with about 100 sites, concrete pads and extra large grass areas.  The laundry room and showers have a large sitting room that looks like a hotel lobby.   The other "lodge" building was about 4 times larger with a lobby with fireplace and porches overlooking the mountains.  The landscaping will be great when finished but for now they could make some money hosting mud wrestling championships.

While in the area we looked for elk at a Angel Fire Resort pond.  The trip was a Goose egg.

One afternoon we drove back past Eagle Nest lake to the Cimarron Canyon State park for a hike. Luckily we stopped at the visitors center and found out that high waters had wiped out the bridges on the way to the waterfalls.  But we did take the hike for a mile or so before deciding not to cross the bridge and scramble over wet logs.
Three other days we drove the 20 miles down the mountain to Taos.  Because I was raised in NM and am a scientist I am obliged, obligated, and required by culture, to do a complete, comprehensive, exhaustive study of New Mexico Chili - red and green. The prototype for green chili is Blue Corn Chicken Green Enchiladas (sour cream optional).

Here are the results:
Bellas enchiladas were good but more influenced by Mexico than New Mexico.  (I probably gave a good rating because these were the first tested since we returned to NM).

The next was Doc Martin's Restaurant.  Leslie had stayed for work at this hotel many years ago.  The enchiladas were excellent, however, not really up to my "heat" level.

The final contender was breakfast at a longtime Taos favorite restaurant.  This was Michaels Kitchen and Bakery.  I had a Green Chili Cheese Omlette.  This green chili had the KICK I was looking for!
Unfortunately Leslie gets embarrassed when I have an out of body orgasmic green chili reaction at a restaurant.  This will be hard to beat in Santa Fe, but the testing will continue!!

Our tour of Taos included standard tourist fare including the famously photographed church, San Francisco de Asis Mission Church, Kit Carson's house, and many Southwestern scenes.  Enjoy!
